Update | Stewart Town residents elated as water restored to their community
Approximately 800 residents of Stewart Town in Trelawny now have water in their homes and standpipes following a plea to the National Water Commission earlier this week.
The residents told The Gleaner on Monday that their pipes had been dry for over four months, forcing them to buy the commodity from a trucker.
Sharon Bailey, a 62-year-old resident on Thursday stated, "I have to sing praises to The Gleaner. We have made several trips to National Water Commission (NWC) and nothing happened. The Gleaner published a story exposing our plight on Monday and by Wednesday we have water."
She said the water situation had been the worst seen in many years.
She added that residents are happy to once again have water for domestic use.
