Corporate Wellness challenge kicks off with island hike
With boots on the ground and wellness on their minds, more than 350 corporate employees and community members converged at Renu Adventures in Cavillers, Stony Hill on Sunday, July 27, 2025, for the first leg of the Ministry of Health & Wellness’ Corporate Wellness Challenge a bold new initiative to reshape workplace health culture across Jamaica.
Officially launched on June 12, 2025, the Corporate Wellness Challenge is an eight-month programme comprising eight wellness-themed events, aimed at tackling the rising burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) through physical activity, health education, and corporate participation.
Sunday’s Nature Hike drew participation from over 40 companies, with many employees bringing along friends and family for the scenic and health-driven experience. The event created a space for both personal rejuvenation and corporate camaraderie all while embracing the natural beauty of Jamaica’s hills.
Attendees also had the opportunity to engage directly with wellness partners:
• Sagicor Life Jamaica was on-site offering one-on-one health consultations, engaging participants on key aspects of personal wellness and insurance coverage.
• IGL Limited delighted taste buds with healthy meal options, including mini chicken quesadillas and open-faced vegan sandwiches, thoughtfully prepared using IGL household gas proving that healthy eating can also be convenient and flavourful.
The next challenge in the series takes place on Caribbean Wellness Day Saturday, September 13. The event will feature a Park Run and Obstacle Course, to be staged simultaneously at four locations across the island, amplifying accessibility and participation.
This multi-event initiative underscores the Ministry’s commitment to advancing preventive health care, encouraging regular movement, and building a healthier, more resilient workforce.
The Corporate Wellness Challenge is about creating a national movement – one where companies become active partners in improving the health of their employees and the wider community.
The Corporate Wellness Challenge is part of the Ministry’s broader National Workplace Wellness Strategy, aimed at empowering Jamaicans to take charge of their health, reduce lifestyle-related diseases, and promote holistic wellbeing across all sectors.
