American man arrested at Norman Manley airport after ammunition found in luggage

An American man was arrested at the Norman Manley International Airport in Kingston on Sunday after 38 rounds of ammunition were allegedly found in his luggage.

The police say the ammunition was discovered during a search.

They report that 31 rounds of 5.56 ammunition and seven rounds of 9mm cartridges were found.

The 47-year-old Florida man was taken into custody on suspicion of unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The US Embassy has been informed.

The police say they are continuing to probe the matter.
