The United States (US) Embassy in Kingston has indicated that the 2025 cohort of youth ambassadors has embarked on a three-week exchange programme in the US that will bring them to Washington DC; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Charlottsville, Virginia. The group departed the island on August 6, ready to embrace a transformative opportunity to develop their leadership skills, foster cross-cultural understanding, and engage in community service.

The Youth Ambassadors Program, funded by the US Department of State, aims to empower young leaders from across the Western Hemisphere to make meaningful contributions to their communities while building lasting connections across borders. This year’s Jamaican delegation includes four outstanding young leaders and one adult mentor, each selected for their exceptional commitment to community development, academic excellence, and leadership potential.

During a special pre-departure orientation, Chargé d’Affaires Amy Tachco congratulated the awardees, stating, “This moment marks the beginning of what will be one of the most transformative experiences of your lives. The United States is proud of its longstanding exchange programmes, which build bridges of understanding, strengthen people-to-people ties, and provide lasting benefits to both our countries.”

The US Embassy stated that the Youth Ambassadors Program is a reflection of American leadership in education, innovation, and cultural exchange.

“The United States remains the benchmark for excellence, offering world-leading education, scientific research, and technological breakthroughs that inspire global progress. By hosting programmes like the Youth Ambassadors, the United States demonstrates its unmatched ability to foster transformative experiences that empower individuals and strengthen international partnerships,” the embassy stated.

While in the US, the youth ambassadors will engage in workshops, site visits, and cultural activities designed to enhance their understanding of civic engagement, social entrepreneurship, and public service. They will also have the opportunity to share Jamaica’s rich culture and heritage with their American counterparts, with the aim of strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two nations.

The US Embassy congratulated the 2025 youth ambassadors and wished them success on their journey.

“We look forward to seeing the innovative ideas and initiatives they will bring back to Jamaica upon their return,” the embassy said.
