PNP Meeting | Buchanan confident of unseating Holness in St Andrew West Central
Paul Buchanan, the People's National Party (PNP) representative who will be challenging Prime Minister Dr Andrew Holness for the St Andrew West Central seat, has urged constituents to deliver a blow to the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) leader in the September 3 general election.
"For 27 years the prime minister of this country has been the member of parliament in West Central St Andrew, and what has he done? One likkle police station out at Olympic Way," declared Buchanan to rowdy applause.
"We are going to win and we are going to win because our message is clear," he said, citing what he said is the deterioration of schools and other public institutions within the community.
He said he will be a member of parliament for both PNP and JLP supporters, particularly their children, "the future".
He also told supporters not to be daunted by the task of unseating Holness as member of parliament for the area.
"This time he is going to lose. I am going to win, and when I get more votes than him, he gots to go!" Buchanan said.
Buchanan became the PNP's standard bearer in the seat in 2024, taking over from Patrick Roberts who had mounted five unsuccessful attempts to defeat Holness in the seat.
Buchanan lost his 2016 bid for re-election to Olympian Juliet Cuthbert Flynn in St Andrew West Rural.
