Homer Davis, the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) candidate for St James Southern, is confident that his work in the constituency will win him the seat for a second straight term.

Speaking moments after he was duly nominated at the Cambridge Resource Centre in Cambridge, St James, Davis dismissed the idea that any political challenger, will be able to unseat him. His chief rival in this regard is the People's National Party's (PNP) Nekeisha Burchell.

"What is going through my mind at this time is to retain this seat for the JLP, and I as their MP for the second time. I have my technical support, my field support, and the support of the electors, and I do not expect to have any rival that might be deemed to be aggressive," said Davis.

"Since my election and endorsement as the MP of St James Southern (during the 2020 general election), the list of my achievements is there, and I am prepared to debate anyone as to my list of achievements," Davis added resolutely.

Davis, who is also the Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister West, says he has been aggressively pursuing water rehabilitation projects in communities across St James Southern since his appointment as MP, as well as provision of educational grants to Primary Exit Profile and tertiary level students.

In 2020, Davis defeated the PNP's Dr Walton Small to claim the constituency.

St James Southern, which is expected to be one of the most closely watched seats in western Jamaica, had previously been a PNP stronghold for 31 years under the party's representative Derrick Kellier.
