The Jamaica Progressive Party (JPP) says it will be "retooling, listening, and returning stronger" following Wednesday's general election in which its candidates failed to secure a seat in the House of Representatives.

The JPP contested the election in 47 seats, however, none of the candidates received a significant number of votes. All its candidates together secured a total of 2, 131 votes.

In a media release on Thursday, President of the JPP, Gilbert Edwards, said "We did not lose. We learned, and we will rise," as he thanked the candidates and those who supported the party.

Edwards said the JPP remains committed to its mission of restoring dignity, raising righteous leadership, and rebuilding Jamaica from the inside out.

"This movement was never just about an election; but about a mission that continues," he emphasised. "We are still standing, we will be serving, and we are still believing."

The JPP also congratulated the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) for securing 34 of the 63 seats in the House of Representatives, while recognising the important role the Opposition People's National Party has played in Jamaican politics.

"The JPP assures the JLP of responsible opposition, holding them accountable for righteous leadership," Edwards stated, adding that "We will not oppose for the sake of opposing, but we will stand up whenever righteousness is compromised or the people are neglected."
