Mayor of Falmouth, Collen Gager, says vending in Water Square will not be tolerated and steps will be taken to remove persons who break the rule.

Despite being a no vending zone, vendors were observed selling in the square on Sunday.

Gager expressed dismay at the development.

"The Square was pedestrianised and declared a No Vending Area. I have noticed that vending has resumed. This flouting of the order will not be tolerated," he said.

He explained that the square is currently undergoing upgrades, including fencing and beautification of the fountain, as well as the planning upcoming unveiling of a statue of Olympian Usain Bolt.

He said vending is not allowed in the area.

"The vendors pour their ash and unused oil right over the fence. That action destroys the vegetation," Gager stated.

He further noted that once the enclosure around the fountain is removed, the Municipal Police will be assigned to enforce the no-vending policy.
