ECJ demands CAFFE withdraw 'false' claims voters were turned away on election day
The Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ) has rejected a claim by Citizens Action for Free & Fair Elections (CAFFE) implying that voters were turned away and not allowed to vote despite being in the line at the 5 p.m. close of polls for the September 3 general election.
It is demanding that CAFFE makes a complete withdrawal of the statement.
CAFFE reportedly said the issue occurred at 21 per cent of polling stations.
The ECJ said in a release on Wednesday that it met and considered the claim by CAFFE and rejects it as "being false as it tarnishes the result of the poll and the ECJ’s reputation."
The ECJ said no such report was made by any Electoral Office of Jamaica official, political party or accredited International Observer.
And it said despite a demand for proof of its assertion, CAFFE has failed to provide any.
