Clunis falls short in hammer throw prelims at World Championships
Nayoka Clunis, Jamaica’s lone competitor in the women’s hammer throw, has failed to advance to the final despite a valiant effort in the qualification group A at the Tokyo World Athletics Championships.
Her best effort of 68.24 metres on the day was not enough to enter the top 12 positions needed to make the final.
Clunis started the day slowly with a foul throw on her first attempt as her effort landed wide of the landing zone.
She would get her first legal toss of the series in her second attempt with a distance of 68.24.
Needing an improvement on her mark, Clunis was only able to throw a distance of 65.60, which saw her fall out of contention for a place in the final.
Following her World Championships debut in 2023, Clunis remains the only Jamaican woman to compete in the hammer throw.
