Seanteès miraculous encounter at Coronation Market
AT JUST 26, Seanteé Hunt McFarlane felt weighed down by life. Stress eating, lacking motivation, and barely able to get out of bed, she found herself distant from herself and overwhelmed by the pressures around her. Searching for healing and direction, she turned to something that had always brought her closer to God: fasting.
“I had fasted before, but only until noon, one day, or maybe three. This time, I knew I needed more,” Seanteé said. Inspired by the Bible verse, “Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting” (Matthew 17:21, KJV), she committed to a full 21-day fast – not merely to abstain from food, but to seek restoration, clarity, and guidance.
Each day she replaced meals with prayer, Bible study, and intentional reflection. She mapped out her journal with a specific focus for each day: spiritual growth, family, friends, health, work, and even people who had hurt her. She followed a regimen similar to that of the late Dr Myles Munroe, consuming only water, herbal teas, coconut water, and cranberry or apple juice.
The first six days were surprisingly peaceful. But on day seven, doubt crept in. Feeling strong yet questioning whether she needed to continue, she broke her fast with a simple bowl of pumpkin soup. Later that evening, her roommate suggested a trip to Coronation Market to collect an item. Both women postponed the visit, feeling too tired. The next morning, they went downtown to the bustling market in Kingston.
Seanteé’s friend stayed in the car while she went to collect the item. On her way out, she stopped at a vendor to buy watermelon. That was when an elderly man with a walking stick approached her.
“Excuse me,” he said gently. “Can I say something to you?”
Seanteé paused, sceptical at first, but something in her felt safe. “Sure, sir,” she replied.
He looked her straight in the eyes.
“I am the man they call the man with no heartbeat. You started fasting for yourself and your family... and you need to continue.”
Her heart stopped. Her eyes filled with tears. She had never met him before. She had told no one about her fast. How could he have known? It was as if God Himself had sent a messenger to remind her that He was present. Before she could even ask his name, the man disappeared into the crowd. Seanteé walked back to the car shaken, stunned, and overwhelmed by the encounter, knowing it was no coincidence but a divine appointment.
Later that night, she reviewed her journal and realised she had accidentally written one day twice in her 21-day plan – creating 22 days. It was as if God had already given her grace to stumble and still finish strong. From that moment, she completed the fast, feeling carried through every step without hunger or temptation. By the end, her spirit was renewed, her mind clear, and her joy restored.
Weeks later, Seanteé shared the story of the mysterious man with her mother. Deeply moved, her mother encouraged her to search for “the man with no heartbeat”. To their amazement, they found him featured on TVJ’s Ray of Hope. Seeing the man on television, with the same story and the same aura, confirmed that their paths had crossed by divine design.
Seanteé’s journey not only transformed her life but inspired her to create More Than a Journal, now available on Amazon. The guide combines her personal story with prayer topics, fasting templates, and reflections, offering a roadmap for others seeking a deeper connection with God.
“God sees you. He hears you. He has a plan for you, just like He had a plan for me,” Seanteé shared.
