JUTC, transport sector saddened by death of bus driver - Vaz
Minister of Transport, Daryl Vaz, has expressed condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus driver, Dwayne Mullings, who died following a crash St Catherine early Wednesday morning.
According to the police, around 3:10 a.m., Mullings was travelling along Salt Pond Road towards Portmore when he lost control of the JUTC bus, which veered off the road and ended up in a ditch.
He sustained severe injuries and was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Vaz said the JUTC family and the wider transport sector are deeply saddened by the loss.
“The JUTC is in mourning today following the tragic passing of one of its dedicated employees who served the commuting public with professionalism and pride. Our public transport operators are essential to keeping Jamaica moving each day, and the loss of one of their own is deeply felt across the entire sector,” said Vaz.
He said his ministry stands in full solidarity with the JUTC during this difficult time and commended the company’s ongoing efforts to provide counselling and assistance to affected staff members as they cope with the loss.
