Former PNP councillor Roogae Kirlew to face court for failing to file statutory declarations

Former People’s National Party (PNP) councillor Roogae Kirlew is expected to face the court following a ruling by the Director of Corruption Prosecution at the Integrity Commission that he be charged for breaching the Integrity Commission Act.

The ruling accompanied an investigative report tabled in the House of Representatives on Tuesday, which concluded that Kirlew, councillor for the Mount Industry Division in the St Catherine Municipal Corporation, failed to file statutory declarations for three periods: 2019, 2020, and 2022.

He is to be charged for breaches of Section 43(1)(a) of the Integrity Commission Act.

This follows a report from Director of Investigation Kevon Stephenson, which stated that a notice to discharge liability was served on Kirlew on September 14, 2023.

He was given 21 days to pay the $250,000 penalty and file the declarations.

The report said checks made with the Information and Complaints Division of the Commission revealed that on October 19, 2023, Kirlew submitted the outstanding statutory declarations for 2019, 2020, and 2022. However, he failed to pay the fixed penalty of $250,000 for the respective years.

His case was referred to the Director of Corruption Prosecution.
