Man who stabbed brother in the neck to spend over a year in prison
A 51-year-old St Catherine man who used a pair of scissors to stab his brother repeatedly in an unprovoked incident has been sentenced to 12 months and 20 days' imprisonment at hard labour.
Brian Allen, a labourer of Tydixon district, St Catherine, convicted for unlawful wounding when he appeared in court on Friday.
Senior Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle said his action proved that a custodial sentence would be most appropriate.
The judge told the accused that it was an unprovoked act, but since he pleaded guilty he would benefit from a 50 per cent reduction in his sentence in addition to the four months in custody.
In addition to the sentence, the judge ordered that he should undergo anger management counselling.
Facts are that on June 7, 2025, the brother was at home when he was attacked and stabbed in the neck and chest by Allen.
The injuries to the complainant resulted in him being hospitalised for six weeks.
The accused was arrested and subsequently charged by the Shady Grove police.
