An Old Harbour, St Catherine, man who is already in custody on firearm-related charges has been slapped with new charges arising from the discovery of a gun in a car he owns during a search by the police on Thursday.

The 31-year-old mechanic of Eight Miles in Barton is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The police report that about 12:50 p.m., personnel from the Proactive Investigation Unit and the Old Harbour Police conducted a detailed search of a 2010 Axio motor car owned by Pryce.

Pryce is already in custody on firearm-related matters arising from his arrest on October 17 in another firearm matter, also in Barton.

During yesterday's search, which was conducted in Pryce's presence, the weapon was found in a section under the driver's seat, according to the police.

It was revealed to be a Springfield Armoury XD 40 pistol affixed with a magazine containing eight rounds of .40 calibre cartridges.

He was formally charged, and a date is being finalised for him to appear in court.
