A man who is a dancehall music selector was arrested today in relation to the seizure of a gun during an operation in the St Andrew North Police Division.

The police say the black .380 pistol was recovered inside a bedroom occupied by the man at a premises that was searched as part of the operation.

The man, who is said to be known in the entertainment circuit in the Corporate Area, is expected to be questioned in the coming days.

Members of the division carried out a series of coordinated operations at several locations shortly after daybreak today.

The team also went to the community of 100 Lane, where the cops reportedly discovered a quantity of assorted ammunition.

The Gleaner understands that 14 rounds were unearthed.

No arrest was made in relation to that find.

Detectives say the discovery came amid ongoing probes into gang activity and the movement of illegal weapons in the division.

Senior investigators indicated that Thursday’s operations were part of an intensified push to disrupt criminal networks operating in several communities under the division’s purview.

Superintendent Randy Sweeney, head of the St Andrew North Police Division, confirmed the reports and told The Gleaner that the police continue to invite the public to share information on guns, gangs, or gunmen.

Police say additional operations are planned as they continue efforts to clamp down on illegal guns, ammunition, and individuals believed to be fuelling violent crime in the area.
