St Andrew businessman charged following shooting over alleged car confusion
A businessman has been charged after allegedly shooting a man who reportedly mistook his vehicle for a relative’s car on Old Hope Road, St Andrew on December 24.
Thirty-seven-year-old Rushane Henry, of Havendale is charged with unlawful wounding, assault occasioning grievous bodily harm, and using a firearm to commit a felony, a police statement said Tuesday.
Reports from the Half Way Tree police say that around 10:05 p.m., a man attempted to open Henry’s vehicle, mistakenly believing it was his cousin’s.
Henry, thinking the man was trying to steal the car, attacked him using his licensed firearm, the statement added.
The complainant reportedly pleaded for the attack to stop, asserting his innocence, after which Henry ceased.
The victim sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital for treatment.
Henry was detained on Monday, and following a question-and-answer interview, he was formally charged.
