Man fatally shot by police during alleged shoot-out in Portmore

A man was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with the police in Bridgeport, Portmore, St Catherine on Wednesday.

The police reported that about 6:00 a.m., a team went to Andrea Crescent in the area to conduct an operation.

According to the police, upon entering a premises, the team was reportedly confronted by the deceased, who they said was armed with a handgun.

The police said the team took defensive action and opened fire, injuring the man.

He was subsequently found clutching a firearm, which was identified as a .38 revolver with six rounds of ammunition.

The man was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident is being investigated by the Independent Commission of Investigations.
