Significant progress made in restoring police stations in Westmoreland

Head of the Westmoreland Police Division, Senior Superintendent of Police, Othneil Dobson, says significant progress has been made in restoring police stations and improving communication systems across the parish.
Speaking at the monthly meeting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation in Savanna-la-Mar on February 12, Dobson reported that most stations are now fully operational following earlier disruptions.
He indicated that only the Bluefields Police Station is not yet fully restored, as repair work is ongoing, but officers continue to serve the public from a temporary location.
Dobson further advised that electricity has been restored to most police stations across the division, while alternative arrangements have been put in place to ensure that communication with the public is not disrupted.
“All our stations except Bluefields and Whitehouse now have back electricity, and all our stations have been connected via cell phones,” he said.
He outlined that the additional communication channels ensure that residents are still able to contact the police, when landline services are unavailable.
Turning to the welfare of officers, the divisional head said morale within the division remains positive despite ongoing challenges.
“Although the situation is not perfect, morale is good. We continue to work, and we expect to have better results,” he said.
Dobson also emphasised that the division remains committed to maintaining strong policing operations and working in partnership with municipal authorities and residents to improve safety and order across the parish.
“It’s trying times, but we all have to work together to make it a better place,” he added.
The senior officer also expressed appreciation for the continued support of local leaders and residents, noting that collaboration remains a key factor in the division’s ability to carry out its mandate effectively.
