The National Water Commission (NWC) has implemented temporary water rationing for some customers in Charles Town and other surrounding areas of St Mary due to a defective pump at its White River facility, which is impacting the water supply.

The measure started today.

“Due to the loss of the pump, additional areas are affected and will undergo similar regulations,” said NWC Regional Manager for the North East, Richard Williams.

Among the other affected areas are Valley Bush, sections of Spring Valley, sections of Balmoral, sections of Caribbean Park, Rock Cottage, the St Mary Country Club, the Three Hills main road, and Ross Common.

“The National Water Commission apologises for this water supply disruption and reports that it is in the process of procuring a new pumping unit for the facility. In the meantime, a smaller unit is being used; however, it is only able to operate the facility at 40 per cent of its production capacity,” Williams pointed out.

The Industry Pen Housing Scheme Phase 1 will receive water on Mondays; Industry Pen Housing Scheme Phase 2 (front section) on Tuesdays; Industry Pen Housing Scheme Phase 3 (back section) on Wednesdays; and Industry Pen Housing Scheme Phase 2 (middle section) on Thursdays.

Additionally, sections of Balmoral, the Three Hills main road, Valley Bush, Rocky Hill, the St Mary Country Club, sections of Caribbean Park, sections of Spring Valley, and Rock Cottage will receive water on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Williams said trucked water will be provided upon request, and customers can contact the NWC at 888-225-5692.

The NWC estimates the restoration of regular water supply by Wednesday, March 25.
