A 19-year-old man was killed in a crash along the AGR Byfield main road in St Ann on Saturday. The incident came amid police report of an overall decline in road deaths so far this year.

The collision occurred about 4:15 p.m. in the vicinity of a gas station, and involved a white 2012 Toyota Crown motor car, according to a report from the police Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch.

Police said the deceased was the driver of the vehicle.

The branch said preliminary investigations suggest excessive speeding, apparent error of judgement, and loss of control as possible causes of the crash.

The fatality comes amid an overall reduction in deaths.

According to the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, 55 people have died in 48 fatal collisions between January 1 and 6 a.m. March 29 this year.

This represents a 37 per cent decline in fatalities and a 41 per cent reduction in fatal crashes when compared to the same period in 2025, which recorded 87 deaths from 81 collisions.

In 2024, there were 106 deaths from 93 fatal crashes over the same period.

For March alone, 10 deaths were recorded from nine collisions, reflecting a 64 per cent decline in fatalities and a 67 per cent reduction in crashes compared to March 2025.
