The St Catherine Parish Court is awaiting a ruling from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in a case involving a man accused of breaking into a woman’s home and attempting to rape her in 2025.
The accused, 32-year-old Richard Taylor of Harker’s Hall district, St Catherine, is charged with housebreaking and attempted rape.
When the matter was mentioned on Friday, the prosecution advised that a response from the ODPP was still pending before the case could proceed.
Acting Parish Court Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle subsequently remanded Taylor until May 19
It is alleged that about 1 a.m. on August 18, 2025, the complainant was at home asleep when she awoke to someone holding her down.
The court heard that she allegedly saw Taylor naked and standing over her. He reportedly demanded sex, but the complainant raised an alarm.
Taylor allegedly fled the house through a grille he had forcibly entered.
The matter was reported to the police and, following investigations, Taylor was arrested and charged.
