A policeman assigned to the St Catherine North Division has died following a motorcycle accident in the parish early Monday morning.

He has been identified as Constable Shanki Gordon, a member of the St Catherine North Operation Team.

Reports are that about 2 a.m. Gordon was riding his motorcycle in Ewarton, St Catherine, when he was involved in an accident. The circumstances are not immediately available.

Gordon suffered severe injuries from the impact and was taken to Linstead Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 2:38 a.m., according to preliminary police reports.

Senior Superintendent of Police Hopton Nicholson, head of the police division, described Gordon as a hardworking and well-rounded officer.

"He was a very energetic individual who would go beyond the call of duty and get the job done,” Nicholson told The Gleaner. “He was also a jovial person who could create laughter on any subject. Trust me, he is sadly missed.”

Several of Gordon's colleagues echoed similar sentiments.
