Detectives in St Catherine have charged a St Mary man for the alleged rape and robbery of a woman whom he met on the dating app Tinder.
Demoy Pennington, 33, who is a bar operator, was on Tuesday charged with forcible abduction, rape, and robbery with aggravation.
The police report that in April 2026, the man and the woman met online and continued to communicate.
It is being alleged that they decided to meet up and did so on the afternoon of June 25 along Hagley Park Road in St Andrew.
The 43-year-old complainant allegedly boarded the accused's motor car and was reportedly driven to Portmore, St Catherine.
Along the route, she is said to have made enquiries about his intentions and was threatened by the accused with a handgun.
The woman was allegedly taken to a motel along Port Henderson Road in Portmore, where she was allegedly raped.
After the incident, the woman was reportedly driven back to the Corporate Area by the accused, where he allegedly stole her handbag, which contained bank cards and a cell phone.
He then drove away and escaped, according to the police.
The woman reported the matter, and the police launched an investigation, resulting in the man's arrest.
He was placed on an identification parade and was positively identified by the complainant.
He was subsequently arrested and charged following a question-and-answer session.
