Second alleged attacker in Zimi Seh Beach brawl offered $500,000 bail

The second alleged attacker in the Zimi Seh Beach Party incident was offered $500,000 bail when he returned to the St Ann's Bay Parish Court on Monday morning.

Ramon Brown, 28, of St Andrew, was offered bail by Parish Judge Kemoy McEkron, who had deferred the bail application last Thursday pending receipt of the antecedent.

The deejay and vendor is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, unlawful wounding and inflicting grievous bodily harm, in connection with the August 9 incident in which two brothers, aged 15 and 17, were reportedly beaten.

According to Brown’s attorney, Stephen Palmer, his client’s antecedent showed that he had no previous convictions or pending charges locally or overseas.

Brown was subsequently offered bail on condition that he surrender his travel documents and report twice weekly to the nearest police station. He was also warned not to interfere with the complainants.

Palmer, in his bail application, submitted that his client had voluntarily surrendered to the police and was not a flight risk.

The court also heard that Brown is the main breadwinner for his family and that he has three children and a mother who are dependent on him.

Meanwhile, Palmer is warning persons to refrain from making what he described as untrue statements about his client.

“I wish to make it clear that persons on social media should cease and desist from making any suggestions or false statements that my client has any pending charges or previous convictions in Jamaica or overseas,” he said.

“If the statements persist, we will pursue legal action,” Palmer added.

Brown is scheduled to return to court on September 22.

He was charged alongside Dave Taylor, 43, a New York City businessman, for their alleged involvement in the incident.

Taylor was previously offered $1 million bail and is also scheduled to return to court on the said date.

He is facing charges of inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and unlawful wounding.

Prosecutors allege that the two brothers were at the popular party, held at Puerto Seco Beach in Discovery Bay, St Ann, on August 9, when they observed a commotion involving two men.

The 15-year-old was reportedly passing at the time and became caught in the middle of the altercation.

His older brother, 17, allegedly attempted to intervene, but prosecutors claim the two were then “attacked and badly beaten by a group of men”.
