A total of 22 complaints were filed with the Sexual Harassment Tribunal between July and December last year, the 2025 Economic and Social Survey Jamaica (ESSJ) has revealed.
The ESSJ is an annual publication by the Planning Institute of Jamaica which provides comprehensive data, reports, and analysis on the country’s economic, social, and environmental developments.
Twenty complaints were filed by females and two by males and approximately 50 per cent of the complainants were employed in the private sector.
Thirty-six per cent of the complaints came from individuals within the public sector while the remaining 14 per cent were from educational institutions, according to the ESSJ.
It said 64 per cent of cases that were reviewed have been closed.
Thirty-two per cent of the cases were pending while the others were withdrawn.
Last February, Cabinet approved the establishment of the fourteen-member Sexual Harassment Tribunal in accordance with the provisions of the Sexual Harassment (Protection and Prevention) Act, 2021.
The tribunal was set up to hear complaints of sexual harassment and determine appropriate remedial and enforcement actions for breaches identified.
The members of the Tribunal were officially sworn in on July 17.
