A teacher in St James has been acquitted of a criminal charge related to allegations that he inappropriately touched a female student.

Courtney Tomlinson was found not guilty of indecent assault on Wednesday at the end of his trial in the St James Parish Court.

The alleged incident occurred at the school in May, the student complained in a report to the police.

Donnovan Collins, the attorney who represented Tomlinson, said the trial included evidence from the female student and school administrators "and as such, the verdict of the court must be accepted".

Collins said his client has maintained his innocence from the outset and can now move on with his life.

"From the first time I saw my client in my office, he broke down in tears expressing his innocence," said the attorney.
