THE SHIPPING Association of Jamaica’s (SAJ) recently concluded online inventory management workshop proved to be a definitive success, drawing enthusiastic participation from 30 professionals across four Caribbean nations.

The fully subscribed workshop was facilitated by the Management Institute for National Development and aimed to equip industry professionals with the skills to optimise their stock control processes. Participants represented nine companies from Grenada, Montserrat, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, underscoring the regional relevance and impact of the association’s training and development programme.

The two-day intensive workshop examined a comprehensive range of topics critical for efficient inventory management. Participants gained a strong foundation in the importance of accurate inventory records, explored various recording methods and location systems, and learned best practices for storage conditions and replenishment strategies. Safety procedures for inventory taking and ethical considerations were also addressed.

One key takeaway for participants was the exploration of different inventory valuation methods, as understanding how to accurately assess inventory is crucial for financial reporting and decision-making processes. Additionally, participants gained practical strategies to implement in their warehouses, such as minimising stockouts and preventing overstocking, which can lead to reduced operational costs and improved customer service.
