KFTL sponsors life-saving surgery for child at Bustamante Hospital
A child at the Bustamante Hospital for Children has been given a second chance at life, thanks to a US$6,000 heart surgery sponsored by Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) in partnership with Chain of Hope Jamaica.
This marks the second consecutive year that KFTL has partnered with the organisation, which is dedicated to providing critical cardiac care to children with congenital or acquired heart conditions.
KFTL’s CEO, Captain Jedrzej Mierzewski, along with members of his team, recently visited the Bustamante Hospital for Children to witness the impact of their support. During the visit, they met with Emma Scanlan, CEO of Chain of Hope UK; Nola Philpotts-Brown, general manager of Chain of Hope Jamaica; and members of the hospital’s dedicated cardiac care unit.
“We are deeply honoured to support Chain of Hope Jamaica,” said Capt Mierzewski. “Every child deserves a chance at a healthy life, and we are proud to play a part in making that possible through this partnership.”
Chain of Hope Jamaica operates in close collaboration with the Bustamante Hospital for Children – Jamaica’s only paediatric hospital and the only facility offering paediatric cardiac services in the English-speaking Caribbean.
In addition to sponsoring the surgery, KFTL is also organising a blood drive on June 6, aimed at supporting the hospital by helping to maintain the essential blood supply required for paediatric cardiac procedures.
With an estimated 200 children born each year in Jamaica with heart disease, and many more awaiting treatment, the work of Chain of Hope Jamaica remains critical. The organisation continues to rely on the generosity of corporate sponsors like KFTL to deliver life-saving interventions.
KFTL has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting this cause as part of its broader Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy, which places a strong emphasis on health and community well-being.
