THE SHIPPING Association of Jamaica (SAJ) showcased its canine and security service offerings during the recent Exporter Information Session hosted by JAMPRO at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel. Designed to support and safeguard Jamaica’s export ecosystem, the SAJ’s services provide essential pre-export cargo screening and site-protection solutions that ensure compliance, safety, and operational efficiency throughout the supply chain.

The forum brought together key stakeholders from across the export value chain, including exporters, logistics providers, the Jamaica Customs Agency, terminal operators, and other support organisations, to share critical insights into the export process.

“The SAJ’s presence underscored its ongoing commitment to national development through tailored services that support businesses, secure cargo, and promote compliance with international trade and security regulations,” said SAJ General Manager Terrence Brooks.

The SAJ’s Canine Division specialises in pre-export cargo screening, vehicle and facility inspections, personnel screening, and the deployment of highly trained detection dogs. These services play a vital role in ensuring that cargo remains free of contraband and other illicit threats before leaving Jamaica’s shores, helping exporters meet international security standards while facilitating smooth cross-border trade. Available 24/7, the Canine Division maintains rapid-response capabilities at Jamaica’s busiest ports and trade hubs.

Through its Canine Division and Security Services arm, the SAJ offers comprehensive protective solutions for exporters, event organisers, residential clients and commercial businesses.

“We have a team of elite detection dogs,” Brooks noted. “Each dog is paired with an experienced handler, including ex-military and law-enforcement professionals, to deliver confidential, client-focused service.”

Complementing its canine operations, the SAJ also provides professional security services for a wide range of sectors. This includes the deployment of armed and unarmed guards to commercial, residential, and industrial locations, as well as canine support for events and perimeter control.

These services are supported by digital patrol verification technologies such as smartphone tracking and QR code check-ins. Clients benefit from real-time reporting that enhances transparency, accountability, and overall security oversight.

“Our services go beyond physical presence. They are smart, tech-enabled solutions designed to deliver measurable value,” Brooks explained. “We understand the evolving security needs of Jamaica’s residential and business landscape and are committed to meeting those demands.”

The SAJ’s participation in the JAMPRO forum forms part of its broader strategy to strengthen engagement with export stakeholders and promote service offerings that drive compliance, resilience, and sustainable growth within the logistics and shipping sector.
