SUNDERLAND (4-1-4-1)

Southampton resume their programme in the Barclays Premier League from a position of strength. The Saints are in third place, just a point behind second-place Manchester City, and will be determined to make amends for their 1-0 defeat at Spurs last time out.

However, they are unbeaten at St Mary's Stadium since April and have conceded only one home goal so far this term - the fewest in the Premier League.

And overall, Southampton have conceded just five goals, again the fewest in the Premier League. Saints' points tally of 13 after seven games is two more than they had at this stage last season.

They face a Sunderland side which has finally won a game, beating Stoke City 3-1 last time out. Previously, Sunderland had drawn five and lost one of their opening six games. However, their one defeat is better than all but Chelsea, (who have yet to lose) and on a par with Arsenal.
