Jamaican sprinter's 'A' sample shows adverse finding for banned drug
There are reports that a Jamaican sprinter has returned an adverse analytical finding of a banned substance.
According to information reaching The Gleaner, the athlete, who was expected to feature at the upcoming IAAF World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, has been informed that their A sample, which was taken at the National Senior Championships in June, has returned a positive result for a banned diuretic.
The substance is believed to have been contained in a popular cold and flu medication.
It is further understood that the athlete requested, since the beginning of August, that their B sample also be tested. This exercise was expected to be carried out at a lab in Michigan, USA.
If the positive test in confirmed through the B sample, the athlete will face the possibility of a four-year ban from the sport, as outlined by the World Anti-Doping Agency and IAAF doping regulations.
This comes on the heels of news that US sprinter Christian Coleman is facing a ban, after an alleged whereabouts violation, which is triggered when an athlete misses three drugs tests in a 12-months period.
