All set for Ted Dwyer Classic
The 2020 track and field season gets off to an early start with the third staging of the Excelsior Community College (ECC) Ted Dwyer Track and Field Classic.
The meet, slated for tomorrow, will see several college and high school athletes showing off their form in over 15 events.
David Perry, sports development officer at the ECC, says the meet presents the perfect opportunity for athletes and coaches to gauge their current preparedness for the upcoming season.
Spirited meet
He says that with the stamp of approval and full backing of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) and Jamaica Intercollegiate Sports Association (Intercol), they will be having a well-organised and spirited meet.
“We have gone all out to attract some of the best athletes at the high school and college level so that we can put on a first-rate and competitive event that will serve as an excellent opening to the 2020 track and field season,” Perry said.
He explained that while this is only the third staging of the event, it is already becoming a staple on the local track and field calendar.
Perry noteed that “following the level of participation and organisation that went into the last two stagings, persons have been voicing their interests in coming on board this year, and we are still open to all schools and sponsors who want to get on board.”
He’s encouraging schools and persons interested in participating to send an email to ted.dwyerclassics@ecc.edu.
The Ted Dwyer Track and Field Classic is expected to get under way at 8:30 a.m. at the Excelsior High School’s nine-lane 400m grass track located next to the college.
