Mount Pleasant Football Academy defeated Portmore United 1-0 in their Jamaica Premier League (JPL) match at the UWI/JFF Captain Horace Burrell Centre of Excellence on Sunday.

Kemar Beckford netted the game's only goal in the 40th minute to give the St Ann team a deserving lead going in at the interval.

Portmore stay atop the JPL standings with 13 points from seven games, and two points clear of second and third placed Vere United and Mount Pleasant.

Mount Pleasant started the better of the teams and had good opportunities through Daniel Green, Beckford, and Cardel Benbow.

Although Portmore came into their own midway the half, they never really threatened and Benbow had a glorious chance to score in the 39th minute but was denied by Kemar Foster in the Portmore goal.

However, from the resulting corner, Beckford was left unmarked to head home from six yards, to give his team the advantage at the break.

Portmore were better after the break and Demar Rose came close. Ricardo Morris then rattled the bar from a free-kick, while Chavany Willis blasted a freekick barely wide.

Benbow had a great chance to add a second but he missed the target after rounding goalkeeper Foster.

Then, Omar Reid fired a great chance for Portmore over, in the last minute, after his initial shot was blocked by goalkeeper Akel Clarke.
