Jackson set for 400m run in Bermuda
Olympic 100 metres bronze medallist Shericka Jackson is one of several Jamaicans down to compete in Bermuda today as the 2022 World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series begins with the United States of America Track and Field (USATF) Bermuda Games at the Flora Fluffy Stadium, Devonshire.
The meet is scheduled to start at 12:20 p.m. Jamaican time with the men’s and women’s triple jump being held simultaneously and will end at 2:24 p.m. with the men’s 100 metres.
Jackson, who also won gold in the 4x100m at the Tokyo Olympic Games, will contest the women’s 400 metres, an event in which she has had great success in at the world stage, including two World outdoor bronze and one bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. In the event today, she will line up against American Wandeline Jonathas who was fourth in the event at the last outdoor championships and her compatriot, NCAA Outdoor champion, Lynne Irby.
Also down to face the starter today is Briana Williams who also won gold in the 4x100m in Tokyo. She will run the 200 metres.
The young sprinter’s coach, Ato Boldon, expects a big run from her today.
“Briana is getting a chance to run a high-quality 200m in April in Bermuda and it fits her overall plan,” Boldon said. “A year ago, she was battling injuries. She’s fully fit and ready now,” he added.
Williams said she was looking forward to the race.
“I’m really thrilled to run my second 200m of the season in Bermuda. It’s my first time there. The field is very strong and I’m looking forward to a new personal best. It’s time to update that number with a very strong and fast race.” Williams’ personal best in the 200m is 22.50.
The other Jamaicans down to compete are Janieve Russell (400m hurdles), Shanieka Ricketts (triple jump), Tyquendo Tracy (100m) and Jordan Scott (triple jump).
