OregonGoldRush | Botswana sprinter breaks World U20 Record
Botswana teenager Letsile Tebogo has broken the World Under-20 Record after a storming performance in the first-round of the men’s 100 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Tebogo, running in heat five of seven this evening, stormed into the lead early in a race that included veterans Akani Simbine of South Africa and Jamaica’s Yohan Blake, to clock 9.94 seconds.
Tebogo was breaking the record he set in April, when he ran at the Botswana National Trials.
At the time, he had broken Trayvon Brommell’s 2014 record of 9.97.
The Botswanan will take on the Jamaicans, who all qualified for the semi-final which takes place tomorrow at 8 p.m.
