Jamaica captured the gold and silver medals as defending champion Janieve Russell retained the title in the women’s 400 metres hurdles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England on Saturday.

Russell easily won the event in 54.14 seconds with teammate Shiann Salmon getting the silver in 54.47 as Jamaica’s third representative, Rushell Clayton, was clipped on the line for the bronze medal.

South Africa’s Zeney Vander Walt denied Jamaica the sweep of the medals as she took the bronze in a personal best of 54.47 seconds with Clayton 54.67 clocking 54.67.
