Reggae Boyz senior men’s captain and goalkeeper Andre Blake is the 2022 recipient of the John Wanamaker Athletic Award, a recognition given to a team, athlete or organisation which has done the most to reflect credit upon the city of Philadelphia.

Blake, 31, is a two-time Major League Soccer (MLS) goalkeeper-of-the-year winner (2016, 2020) for the Philadelphia Union, who currently hold top spot in the Eastern Conference on 64 points, five clear of CF Montreal.

The former Clarendon College stand-out, leads a defensive line that boasts the best defensive record this season, conceding a league-best 22 goals from 32 games.

Blake, speaking after the recognition showed gratitude.

“I am grateful to be recognised by the Philadelphia sports community and honoured to accept the Wanamaker Award on behalf of my family, teammates and the entire Philadelphia Union organisation.

“Throughout my career, I have strived to set an example on and off the field. I hope that I’ve inspired the future generation of young athletes to work hard and keep chasing their dreams,” said the Reggae Boyz Captain.
