‘Big 12’ promises Fight Nights appearance
JAMAICAN HEAVYWEIGHT boxing sensation Ricardo ‘Big 12’ Brown has given a big thumbs up to the recently launched Wray and Nephew Fight Nights and promises that he will be gracing the stage very soon.
Brown, currently Jamaica’s most established boxer on the global scene, came through the local ranks and went on to represent at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo before moving into the professional ranks.
Since making his professional debut in 2021, the big Jamaican has racked up an 8-0 record, winning all his fights by knockout. No fight has gone past the second round.
The 32-year-old had long made his desire to fight in Jamaica known, and he believes the Wray and Nephew Fight Nights presents the perfect opportunity.
“I think this upcoming card is going to have some good fights. I like it,” he told The Gleaner. “I am not on that fight card, but very soon, I will be there fighting for a world title or Caribbean title.
“It’s good to see Wray and Nephew back on board with the boxing board. That is so amazing, and I cannot wait to come and do a fight in Jamaica. So very soon, I’ll be out there. I am just waiting on the promoter to get everything ready and I’ll be there soon.”
During his time on the local circuit, opportunities for boxers were limited, so Brown is especially pleased to see an event like this, which gives young local boxers an opportunity to showcase their talent on a world stage, and he encourages them all to go out and be the best they can be.
“I am so happy to see all these up-and-coming boxers really getting a chance to show their talent, so the world can see them more and they can advance and go to the next level because we have a lot of talent in Jamaica and we have to make sure we get them out there.
“So I want to say big up to all the up-and-coming boxers who are going to take part in that show. It’s amazing to see that. You all go do your thing and put your best out no matter what,” he stated.
The Wray and Nephew Fight Night begins this Saturday at the Cling, Cling Oval.
In the feature, and lone professional fight on the card, Jerome ‘Breezy’ Richard takes on Omar ‘Crane’ Edmund in a heavyweight contest.
The amateur card will see Chevon ‘Rage’ Gordon against Kevon McKenzie, Kirk Clarke faces Akeem ‘Dream’ Mignot, Kimarley ‘LG’ Marley opposes Delano ‘Macka’ MCaulghin, Vinroy Coke takes on Ian Flemming, Jahmari ‘Wata Man’ Frazer goes up against David ‘Dancing Bomber’ Barnaby, Calvin Mignot fights Joshua Kid, and Juzier ‘Iron Man’ Heron battles Darron ‘Avatar’ Weir.
The first fight is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
