AKIM LARMOND has high hopes for Donald Quarrie High School.

Donald Quarrie has not been a force to be reckoned with over the past years at the schoolboy football level, but things may take a turn for the better with the focus of Larmond, the programme’s general manager.

With the inclusion of the coaching team that includes Sydney McFarlane (technical director), Christopher Harvey (head coach), and Dwayne Blake (assistant head coach), Donald Quarrie has their sights set on becoming contenders for the Manning Cup title again.

A big supporter of Donald Quarrie’s football programme is Maestro Sports, owned and operated by Sean Michael Morgan, which so far, has contributed training gear and is in the process of also providing backpacks and proper wear for the team to look professional at all times.

Larmond, who had a three-month stint at Donald Quarrie as a schoolboy before moving to Kingston College, explained that there is a bigger picture to consider.

“I see this as an opportunity to uplift, not just Donald Quarrie, but my community of Harbour View. I see this transforming the kids’ lives. I once knew what it was to want an opportunity and not have it,” said Larmond.

“Now I want to propel these youngsters through football to not just be better at the sport, but to leave with their heads high, knowing they improved academically, their behaviour is mended to help them elevate and be successful when they leave school to take on what the world has to offer,” said Larmond.

Larmond is also keenly aware that the community’s support is integral to the improvement of the team and the players, and as such, is requesting that support.
