Women’s 400 metres hurdles champion Femke Bol denied the Jamaican women's 4x400 metres what seems a sure gold medal in the final event at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary today.

Bol sped past Stacey-Ann Williams in the last five metres to secure the first gold medal in the event for the Netherlands.

The Jamaicans, consisting of Candice McLeod, Javieve Russell, Nickisha Pryce and Williams, led the race from start, almost to finish and were only denied of the gold by Bol's superb finish.

The Netherlands won in a world-leading 3:20.72 minutes, ahead of Jamaica, who had a season's best 3:20.88. Great Britain took third in 3:21.04.
