St Jago’s girls shine at Queen’s meet

FORMER inter-secondary girls’ champions St Jago High displayed their best form this season with several good performances at last Saturday’s 23rd staging of the Queen’s/Grace Jackson Invitational meet at the National Stadium.

St Jago dominated the 200 metres in Classes Two and Three. In Class Two, Malayia Duncan won in 25.52 seconds, with teammate Janella Gooden second in 25.71. Third went to Dawaynea Lewis of Merl Grove High in 26.02.

In Class Three, Shannia Campbell won in 24.87, ahead of Shameika McLean (24,98) of Foga Road High, with Campbell’s teammate, Alyssa Carty, third in 25.37.

The Class Two 800m was won by St Jago’s Kedera Coombs, an early favourite for a medal in the event at the 2025 ISSA-GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships. Coombs clocked 2:22.02 for the win and finished ahead of teammates Jada Fletcher (2:22. 07) and Tasheka Palmer, 2:26.71. Shamayra Palmer of St Jago was second in the Class Three 800m in 2:26.15. The event was won by Vere Technical’s Drianna Frater in 2:25.08, with third going to Jonelle Davis of St Andrew High in 226. 89.

Wolmer’s Girls showed good form in the 400m. Akeelah Bell won the Class Two one-lap event in 57.27 seconds ahead of teammate Kaysian Sewll (58.35). In Class One, Abigail Wolfe won in 57.84.

Hydel High showed depth in the Class One 200m by capturing the top three places. Jody Ann Daley won in 24.40, ahead of Shemonique Hazle (24.76) and Rochelle Wint (25.05).

Top St Jago representatives Ryan Achua and Khieme Campbell maintained their winning form in the 800m. In Class One, Achua won in 1:55.37, ahead of Calabar High’s Dujhantai Markell (1:56. 52) and Justin Wolfe (1:56.61).

Campbell clocked an impressive 2:04.04 for his win in Class Three. His teammate, Jaydon Gordon, was second in 2:09. 25, with third going to Diamond Bryan of Calabar in 2:09. 31.

St Mary High’s Rasheed Grant topped the Class Two Boys’ 800m in 1:58.60. Calabar’s Alejandro Parker (2:01. 20) and Obrian Clarke (2:03. 20) were second and third, respectively.

St Jago’s Ravon Romelly scored a big win in the Class Two Boys’ 400m, clocking 52.29. Malike Thompson of Camperdown High was second in 53.10, with Romelly’s teammate, Jevaney Findlay, third in 53.21.

St George’s College’s Tyrece Foreman was fastest in the Class One 200m. He won in 21.66. Raheim Allyson of Clarendon College was second in 21.71, with Markell Smith of Kingston College (KC) placing third in the same time.

Malique Dennis of Jamaica College won the Class Two 200m in 22.11 ahead of Rushane Richards of St Jago (22.35). Dennis’ teammate, Kaeden Hibbert, was third in 22.38.

KC’s Andre Genus won the Class Three 200m in 23.36. Jamaica College’s Tyler Morgan (23.39) and Darrell Douglas (23.41) were second and third, respectively.
