NEW MONTEGO BAY United (MBU) head coach Paul ‘Tegat’ Davis believes that the absence of a familiar voice might have affected their performance after they were held to a 0-0 draw by Racing United in their Wray and Nephew-sponsored Jamaica Premier League football match at the Montego Bay Sports Complex on Thursday night.

Davis replaced Rodolfo Zapata in midweek after the Argentinian’s sudden departure from the club.

“They just have to adjust to this (his) style of football. They were a bit lethargic tonight, you can see we were playing in spurts. I would like them to play the passing game,” Davis said.

“It is gonna take a little while to get them to move the ball around, because we were stretching this Racing team. They are good players and, once they put their minds to it, they can do it,” added Davis.

In an evenly balanced match, Racing came out full of running in the first half, creating chances while having more possession of the ball.

MBU entered the second half with intensity and dominated their opponents with more attacks and attempts at goal.

Demario Phillips had a chance to put MBU in front but his shot hit the crossbar.

Racing’s substitute player, Tyrone Harrison, then forced a very good save from MBU’s goalkeeper Aaron Enill as the visitors pushed forward.

Racing United’s coach Anthony Patrick was satisfied with the point.

“I think we achieved what we came here for. We want to share points with the top- four or top-five teams in the league Then we try to beat the teams on the bottom of the table and keep ourselves firmly in the league,” Patrick said.

“We could have won the game the last 20 minutes, as we created the chances, but I am satisfied with one point,” he added.

MBU remain third in the standings with 49 points. Racing are eighth with 35.
