MEXICO’S WOMEN’S football team romped to a 4-0 win over Jamaica’s Reggae Girlz in the second of two friendly internationals at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston, Texas yesterday.

Two goals from Alice Soto (11th and 24th) and one each from Lizbeth Ovalle (eighth) and Scarlett Camberos (18th) put the Mexicans 4-0 up after 25 minutes, and they kept that lead until the very end.

Mexico took control from the kick off and, eight minutes into the game, Ovalle’s inswinging cross eluded goalkeeper Sydney Schneider and her defenders and found its way into the net.

Three minutes later, the Reggae Girlz gifted the Spanish-speaking girls a second goal when Nicole Perez intercepted Schneider’s short spot kick and set up Soto for her first goal.

Camberos made it 3-0 after 18 minutes, after latching on to a through ball and drilling an unstoppable shot past Schneider.

Ovalle, Camberos and Soto continued to make life difficult for the Reggae Girlz and, in the 24th minute, Soto picked up a pass from Camberos and weaved her way past two defenders before firing home a low shot.

Jamaica improved after the break but still found it difficult to create good chances against the Central Americans.

Trudy Carter had a good chance in the 56th minute, but fired over the top.

The game balanced out the more it went on, and Jasmine Casarez blasted a great opportunity for Mexico high and wide in the 75th.

Kameron Simmonds nearly got in behind two minutes later, and Vyan Sampson had a shot at an unguarded goal from outside the box blocked for the Reggae Girlz.
