Rural teams show good form heading into Senior Cup quarters
THE STAGE is set for exciting showdowns in the 2025 Stewart’s Auto-sponsored Jamaica Cricket Association Michael Holding Senior Cup quarter-finals following the final set of group games on Sunday.
The knockout stage, scheduled for May 10–11, promises some thrilling clashes as the top teams battle for a spot in the semi-finals.
Zone C winners St Mary Cricket Association, wrapped up their perfect preliminary round with their fourth victory of the campaign, getting the better of St Ann by 10 wickets at Jacks River and will square off with Zone F table-toppers St Catherine CC at Boscobel.
The Saints, after securing first-innings hnours in their drawn game against Melbourne at Derrymore Road, pipped their opponents to group honours by virtue of a better net run rate after the teams tied on 22 points.
In that game, three centuries were scored, with Jose Northover and Renalda Ingram getting to triple figures for Melbourne, and Marlon Williams doing the same for St Catherine CC.
ONE OF THE BEST BOWLERS
Matthew Comrie of Melbourne was one of the best bowlers, bagging five wickets in St Catherine’s first innings.
Rural outfit Trelawny Cricket Association had four wins and one draw to top Zone B, and they will square off with Zone A winners Clarendon Cricket Association at Jamalco.
Trelawny secured their fourth win when they brushed aside Westmorland Cricket Association by an innings and 87 runs at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium.
Westmorland managed only 89 for nine and 55 for 9, with Osburn Palmer picking up nine wickets in the match. Howard Palmer hit 101 for Trelawny in their total of 231 for four declared.
Clarendon will also enter that quarter-final clash in good form as they brushed aside Manchester by 10 wickets.
In other quarter-final games, Zone D winners and defending champions Kingston will face Melbourne at Sabina Park, while Zone E winners Kensington will do battle with the JDF at Kensington Park.
The winners of these quarter-finals will advance to the semi-finals on May 24–25, with the grand final scheduled for June 7–8.
