THE INSTITUTE of Sports (Insports) Devon Biscuits All-Island Primary Schools Athletics Championships runs off tomorrow with the staging of the three-day Central Championship at the G.C. Foster College.

Devon Biscuits, which came on board in 2023, resuscitating the championship with a cash injection of $21 million over three years and operational costs of a whopping $43.5m, said, this year, they have big things in store.

Devon Biscuits’ brand manager, Sherene Bryan, said it’s all about the development, nurturing, and sustainability of student athletes.

“Our support is a commitment to the development of youths of Jamaica, primarily in the discipline of track and field. And we help fulfil dreams and hopes for the future athletes to represent Jamaica,” said Bryan.

The 43rd staging of the Insports All-Island Primary Schools Athletics Championships is divided into regional championships -- Central (May 5-7); Western (May 8-10) and Eastern (May 14-16), culminating with the grand finale – the Nationals, inside the National Stadium on May 29-31.

Each regional champion will receive prize money of $350,000, while the all-island national champion will walk away with $600,000.

Approximately 130 schools, represented by more than 6,000 students, will participate, with each regional class champion being awarded $15,000 and the national class champions taking home $50,000.

The G.C. Foster College will be buzzing with excitement as national champions Naggo Head Primary aim to defend their Central regional title. They will have most to fear from perennial challengers Spanish Town and Greater Portmore.

St Thomas’ Lyssons Primary are the reigning Eastern champions, while Corinaldi Avenue Primary are the Western winners.

“Devon Biscuits will again be on the ground at every event, with give-aways, goodie bags containing essentials that these promising girls and boys can use in their everyday life,” Bryan explained.
