KFC sweetens the pot for top schoolboy footballers
The Inter Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) schoolboy football season kicks off today and long-time sponsor Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) has sweetened the pot for the top performers this season with cash and other incentives for players and their schools.
Andrei Roper, KFC’s marketing manager, announced at the launch of the competition at the Summit last month, that to celebrate their 50th anniversary in Jamaica, for every hat-trick scored they will reward schools with cash awards and $25,000 gift certificates for KFC products to the players.
“For every hat-trick scored in the 2025 football season, KFC will donate $50,000 to the school that the player is from. So put on your scoring boots, we have a lot of money to give away this season,” Roper said.
For the Manning Cup, daCosta Cup and Champions Cup MVPs, the incentives are similar.
“We will donate $50,000 to the schools of the players and $25,000 worth of KFC product to the MVPs,” Roper added. “It’s all about celebrating excellence, celebrating the big league performances and making sure we reward those players and those teams that are making schoolboy football the spectacle that it is.”
He noted that the fans will also be included in their incentives throughout the season as well, and pointed out that on their social media pages fans will be invited to post and predict exact scores for particular matches.
“Each week we are going to select one lucky social media fan who has predicted the final score correctly. That fan is going to win free KFC products. So right through the season, each week, one lucky fan is going to win free KFC for the week for predicting the final score of a big match.
“The fans are a big part of what makes schoolboy football a big hit so we are giving back to our fans, and there will be lots of prizes and giveaways and lots of free KFC. This schoolboy football season we are celebrating our young footballers, celebrating our schools and fans in the best way possible,” Roper said.
