Kemps Hill eye another giant-killing act
Following their giant-killing performance at home two days ago, when they stunned Glenmuir High 1-0 in Zone I action of the daCosta Cup, Kemps Hill will be hoping for a repeat today. They host defending champions Garvey Maceo High in the penultimate set of playoff matches, starting at 3:30 p.m.
Both Glenmuir and Garvey Maceo have already secured spots in the round of 32 with 21 points each. Kemps Hill, sitting third on 16 points, need a win or a draw to join them. They are in pole position, with Denbigh High in fourth on 13 points.
Denbigh face a must-win clash at home against neighbours Glenmuir but victory may not be enough if Kemps Hill take at least a point.
Kemps Hill will be highly motivated, especially with all their playoff matches at home. They face a Garvey Maceo team that showed grit in their last outing, defeating Denbigh 2-1. Playing with 10 men from the second minute, the champions battled hard before sealing victory in stoppage time.
Denbigh, meanwhile, have a mountain to climb. Glenmuir, wounded after their first loss of the season, will be eager to prove it was only a minor setback. They brushed aside Denbigh 3-0 in the first round and will start favourites again.
It’s do-or-die for Denbigh. A win is the only option. Anything less could end their season, and that desperation may push them to pull off an upset – just as Kemps Hill did two days ago.
