Red Blazer Charity Golf Classic in aid of education

OVER THE past 23 years, corporate Jamaica has supported the Liguanea Lodge Red Blazer Charity Golf Classic, which has, in recent times, raised approximately $2 million for the Rotary Club of St Andrew North and its Education Foundation. The event is modelled after the Green Jacket in the Masters on the PGA Tour.

This year’s major sponsors include Innovative Energy Group - through its Tara Electric Golf Carts - and VM Group, with sponsorship support to date from ATL Automotive (BMW); Supreme Ventures Foundation; Microlabs; Proven Wealth; General Accident; Restaurant Associates and PwC.

At the launch of this year’s Red Blazer Golf Classic, held on September 22 at a joint meeting of the Rotary Clubs of St Andrew North and Downtown Kingston, staged at 6A Oxford Road, New Kingston, tournament co-ordinator Wayne Wray said that to date, corporate Jamaica has contributed $1 million towards this year’s event, set for Saturday, November 1 at the Caymanas Golf Club.

Wray said this year will mark the third time that the Liguanea Lodge and the Rotary Club of St Andrew North Education Foundation will be partnering to support three community projects from the net proceeds of this year’s tournament. These include this year’s Rotary Club of St Andrew North’s major project to rebuild the performing arts and dance classroom at the St Jago High School and the club’s secondary- and tertiary-student grants.

“In addition, the Liguanea Lodge will be presenting a bursary at Kingston College in commemoration of its centenary year, through the institution’s annual Errol Alberga Sr Scholarship Fund,” said Wray.

In appealing for support for the event, President of the Rotary Club of St Andrew North Pierpont Wilson said: “I look forward to this year’s golf tournament and its contribution to our $7.5-million project to rebuild the performing arts classroom at St Jago High School. I warmly invite past students, friends of St Jago, and supporters everywhere — golfers and non-golfers alike — to come out and champion this worthy cause.”

The Red Blazer Golf Classic 2025 sign-in for golfers begins at 7 a.m., while the tournament will tee off at 8:30 a.m. The day will be packed with activities for golfers and guests to include entertainment, lunch, fellowship and the opportunity to test-drive electric golf carts and EV cars.
