Three Manning Cup round of 16 spots up for grabs
Three more ISSA/WATA Manning Cup Round of 16 spots could be decided today as playoff round action resumes in Zones C, D and E across the corporate area.
Vauxhall High, Camperdown High, Campion College, Norman Manley High, Wolmer’s Boys and Ascot High are still fighting for spots in the next round.
The top three teams from the playoff round, alongside the best fourth place team, will advance to the round of 16.
In Zone C, St Andrew Technical High (STATHS) and Jamaica College (JC) have already booked their spots in the next round as they lead the way with 22 and 20 points respectively.
Must-win for Camperdown
Vauxhall sit third in the zone with 16, followed by Camperdown, 12, who are both still within a chance of securing the final qualifying spot.
Vauxhall will host STATHS while Camperdown will travel to the Ashenheim Stadium to face JC.
A win for Vauxhall will see them securing third place in the group and advancing to the round of 16.
Camperdown face a must-win game against JC. Anything short of a win could prove fatal to their chances of automatic qualification.
In Zone D, St Catherine and Eltham have also secured their passage to the next round as automatic qualifiers.
St Catherine’s perfect record see them leading the zone with 24 points, ahead of Eltham, 21.
Campion and Norman Manley are in a close battle for the final spot, with Campion holding the advantage with 13 points to Norman Manley’s nine.
The Campionites are hoping to recover from their 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Eltham, but face an uphill task when they take on St Catherine, who have only conceded twice this season.
Should Campion claim all three points, they will advance to the next round while Norman Manley will need a win over Eltham to keep their hopes alive.
It is a similar storyline in Zone E as 2023 Manning Cup champions Mona High (24 points) and Calabar High (21) have both secured their spots in the round of 16.
Wolmer’s (15) are expected to comfortably advance to the next round, as they need just a point from their last two games to ensure their safety. However, they face a tough task against Mona who are looking to extend their perfect record to nine games.
Meanwhile, Ascot will need to defeat Calabar, and hope for favourable results, if they are to keep their slim chances of advancing alive.
